In this VO Genesis review, you’re going to get the answers you’re looking for after coming across this promising opportunity.
The video and sales page for VO Genesis by Jenny Lewis makes some promises that may raise an eyebrow or two. The next logical thing to do would be to ask questions like:
- Is this legit?
- Is VO Genesis a scam?
- Can you really make this much money working from home with this method?
- How easy is it to make money with VO Genesis?
- Has this worked for anyone?
Well, after being asked by a reader whether or not I would recommend VO Genesis, I decided to purchase the book to see what it was all about.
This review is going to reveal my honest opinion about VO Genesis and whether or not it will work for you.
What Is VO Genesis?
VO Genesis is a guide written by Jenny Lewis that teaches you how to make money as a voice over artist.
Voice over artists are also known as voice actors and are employed to do voices for different media including radio and tv commercials, documentary narration, movie narration, animated film voices and online ads.
According to Voices.com, this line of work is pretty lucrative and you can earn anywhere from $100 for a local radio commercial, $300 for an hour of audiobook narration and up to $10,000 if you manage to get a starring role in an animated short film.
VO Genesis outlines everything you need to get started with voice over work from developing your skills as a voice over artist, setting up a simple home recording studio to websites where you can find work and recording and editing your voice work.
The main guide also comes with some bonus guides that can help you advance your career as a voice over artist. The bonus guides include:
- How To Triple Your Voice Over Fees Even If You Hate Negotiating
- How To Get More Voice Over Gigs Than You Can Handle
These guides are also very informative and can help you make even more money from providing voice over services.
My First Impressions About VO Genesis
If after checking out the VO Genesis sales page you asked the question “is VO Genesis legit” or “is it a scam” then this is totally understandable as I had the same level of skepticism.
With a headline promising $1200 a day during the current coronavirus economic situation, it’s easy to wonder if you’re being exploited.
VO Genesis also has another sales page where they promise up to “$8520 per month in your pajamas”. This is the first one I encountered.
The sales message, I admit, come with a bit of unrealistic hype that you would normally see with scam products and other questionable business opportunities.
I didn’t see anything though that would stop me from getting the guide and checking it out. They didn’t hide the fact that you were going to be learning about voice over work.
After purchasing, downloading and checking out the package, I can confirm that VO Genesis is a totally legit guide that offers a lot of useful information about becoming a successful voice over artist.
If you’re just starting out, you probably wouldn’t make $1200 in a day or $8520 in a month but with this type of work, with the rates they pay, it is totally doable to make those figures.
However, I will add that VO Genesis is not for everyone. It would be best suited for someone who has considered doing voice over work before but don’t know where to start.
If you’ve been told that you have a nice radio-friendly voice before or you’re confident that you have the type of voice that would work well with this then this might be a great opportunity for you as a side hustle.
Purchasing VO Genesis
VO Genesis is advertised at a value of $97 with a $57 off discount bringing the price to $39.95. If you click away from the page, you can get further discounts bringing the price down to $19.95.
You’ll pay through their secure payment processor, Clickbank who offers a full 60 day money back guarantee which ensures that if you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can just contact them for a full, no hassle refund.
I paid with PayPal and was instantly emailed my download link. However, I was presented with some additional offers by VO Genesis.
There was an upsell for a guide called VO Genesis Accelerator, which promises to get you into the top 2% of voice over artists, an elite group that commands the highest fees in the industry.
I did not purchase this. It is best to check out the main offer to ensure that you’re getting quality information before you get any upsell.
After declining VO Genesis Accelerator, there was yet another upsell for a product called Multiple Streams of Income. I also declined this one.
You aren’t required to purchase any of these additional offers in order to make money with VO Genesis. These are optional and only of value if you think that they can help make you even more money.
After being presented with the offers, you’re presented with the download page but you can also just go to your email for the link. You should save the email because it also has your receipt just in case you need it to get a refund.
My Review of VO Genesis
So what’s inside VO Genesis and is it worth getting?
VO Genesis has been around since 2015 and I can say that the information contained within the guide is very much relevant today.
Not many products survive this long if they aren’t giving people the information they need to make it work.
If you had no idea about how to get into the voice over industry then this would be a great starting point. The guide is packed with a lot of useful info.
Inside you will learn:
- the types of voice over work you can do (not all voice over work will be suitable for you)
- the proper way to record an impressive voice over demo to send to clients
- how to set up a simple home studio (not as expensive as it sounds)
- how to develop your skills as a voice over artist
- websites where you can find the best paying jobs
- how to record and edit your voice over work
VO Genesis and the included bonus guides are perfect for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career or side hustle as a voice over artist.
Just know though that you probably wouldn’t be making $1200 a day anytime soon. But it’s definitely a goal you can set for yourself if you seriously decide to get into this.
VO Genesis Pros (What I Liked)
VO Genesis Cons (What I Didn’t Like)
Can You Make $1200 with VO Genesis?
If you have voice talent, the drive to do the required work and the desire to succeed, it’s hard to not find success with voice over work. Every successful voice artist started out as a beginner.
Even if you’re not confident or don’t think you have a good enough voice, you can still make progress by getting voice training. VO Genesis provides links to workshops you can attend to enhance the skills needed.
But can you make $1200/day following the methods laid out in the guide?
Allow me to show you a couple of scenarios.
Below is a photo of the rates suggested by Voice.com for non-broadcast voice work. Non-broadcast would be voice overs for stuff like audiobooks, video games or training videos inside a membership site.

You’ll see that just 2 minutes of finished work with a word count of 300 or less pays a minimum of $100.
Up to 45 minutes of finished work pays from $1000 – $1249. These are just suggested rates and what you should expect to be paid. Different categories of voice work have different standard rates.
Completing two of these projects per day could easily get you $1200. Remember, you still would need to record your work, edit it and communicate with the client who may ask for a revision.
Here’s a voice over job on the micro-job website Fiverr.

Erica Roth is a voice over artist who provides voice over services on Fiverr. Her services start at $150 basic for 150 words. Normally, you would expect to receive the finished work from her in 3 days and 1 revision is allowed at no cost.

In the details of her job, you can choose different options for your completed job. Above, you can see that, I’ve adjusted the word count to $300 words, asked to speed up the delivery, opted for background music and asked for full broadcast rights – stuff that are typically asked for by voice over clients. My fee goes up to $625 for the completed job.
Erica has a 4.9 star rating from over 110 reviews, has the Fiverr’s choice badge and is a Top Rated Seller on Fiverr. At the time of this writing, she had three jobs in her queue.
Erica can easily make $1200 in a day doing voice over work on Fiverr.
Not everyone is Erica though. We all have to start somewhere before we can get to her level but it just goes to show what is possible.
VO Genesis provides a strong foundation of the skills and methods you need to get into the voice over industry.
Who Is VO Genesis For?
As I’ve mentioned before, VO Genesis isn’t for everyone. If you have no genuine interest in doing voice over work, then it would be a waste of time purchasing this guide. It may present no value to you.
If you have been told before that you have a great voice and you think that voice over work is something you can see yourself doing then VO Genesis might be for you.
This isn’t a get rich quick scheme where you will be rolling in dough by next week. There is some set up to do where you might need to purchase stuff like a microphone and make a home studio.
It’s not as expensive as it sounds and if you’re serious about getting into voice over work then this is something you won’t mind considering.
From what I’ve written here on this page, only you can decide if VO Genesis is for you. If you think it is then you can get it here.
Conclusion
I hope that I’ve answered all your questions in this VO Genesis review.
The sales page of the website may set off some red flags due to a bit of hype in the presentation but after checking out the product itself, I can tell you that this is a solid introduction to the world of voice over work.
It is definitely not a scam as it has been online for about 5 years and you can get real value from the information presented.
You probably won’t make $1200 when you’re just starting out but the potential to do so is definitely there.
